Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War 4 spotlights the Necrons

The mechanical Necrons are rising to once again dominate the planet Kronus in the latest look at Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4.

Maybe getting somewhat lost in this massive year of huge releases, is Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4. The real-time strategy sequel is en route for launch this fall, and looking to once again serve up warfare in Games Workshop’s far future.

We’ve seen a good deal of the game in action to date, but also a series of CGI trailers. Those have served to deliver a fleshing out of the game’s narrative. And yes, we realize “fleshing” might be something of a mislabeling considering today’s subject. Of course, that’s be because the latest video focuses on the robotic revenants known as the Necrons.

In the presentation, we see a Necron Chronomancer called Thothmek overlook the world of Kronus. It’s there that the Imperium and Orks wage war, seeking domination. But that doesn’t sit all that well with him, given that his race lay claim to Kronus.

As with many worlds across known space, this one was once under the thumb of the Necrons. As such, it’s loaded with tombs from the long in stasis race. Those are far from intact, thanks in large part to the ongoing fighting. So naturally, Thothmek’s risen his own army and is ready to crash the party.

While that’s a pre-animated look at the Necrons that you just watched, there’s more incoming. Just in case you missed it, the trailer closed with a tease at a full faction trailer that’s set to land at the close of the month, on July 29th.

A year of action, included

From Deep Silver and KING Art Games, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is aiming for a September 17th, 2026 release on the PC. And along with the base version, fans will also have the option to pick up the Commander Edition.

That special edition of Dawn of War IV will come complete with a three day head start too. That’ll get fans into the action on September 14th. For those who might want to secure their copy early, both versions are available now for pre-order, with a 10% off discount.

If you’re looking long-term, the game is just getting started too. Deep Silver says a full year of content is planned out. Not only that, but those post-launch downloadables are going to be free. Yep, you read right. “Year One” will include “free updates featuring the return of Crusade Mode, new maps, modes, Commanders, and the Mission Editor, alongside two major story expansions that will deepen the conflict on Kronus and introduce a new playable faction to the battlefield.”
