The bobcat is back. Bubsy has bounced back with Bubsy 4D, a 3D platformer that touts a physical edition for the Switch and Switch 2.
Bubsy triumphant?
Returning the cartoon cat to action is Bubsy 4D, a 3D platformer that’s brought the former 16bit mascot back for the modern age. We were going to say ’16bit icon’ there, but that’s probably not the best of terms for this particular feline. After all, Bubsy‘s history isn’t exactly celebrated to a great degree. Be that as it may though, a shaky past isn’t going to stop his comeback.
For its part too, Bubsy 4D does at least look pretty sharp. The new title hails from Atari and developer Fabraz, and sends Bubsy on a mission against the BaaBots. They’re some real nasties, naturally, who’ve absconded with his Golden Fleece. So it’s up to him to make his way across a series of alien worlds, and take ’em down.
Along the way, he’ll meet old friends, battle bosses, and even engage in some time trials. Those are geared towards online competition as well, so there’s a kinda/sorta multiplayer aspect in play as well.
In Bubsy 4D, I’m on a mission to take back the Golden Fleece from those nasty BaaBots who snatched it right out of my paws. I’ll run, jump, glide, and roll across alien planets with platforming purrfection, tackling vibrant fabric- and craft-themed levels, with each planet ending in a BaaBot boss battle. Dress me up in stylish new outfits, collect hidden blueprints to unlock new moves, and race against other players’ ghost data in online time trials. Along the way, I’ll reunite with furmiliar friends like Terri, Terry, Virgil, and Oblivia – all to a pawsitively funky soundtrack by Fat Bard.

No cat can resist a good box
Bubsy 4D is available now in digital format, for the PS5, XBOX Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2, and PC (via Steam, Epic, and GOG). That version is priced in at $19.99 USD. As mentioned though, there’s also a physical version to talk about.
Bubsy 4D: Pawsome Edition is a Switch and Switch 2 exclusive, that boxes up the new title. As you can see in the official image too, it’s packed up with some extras. Aside from the cart, both versions include a “tuck-in exterior box, user manual, poster and artbook”.
As for availability and pricing, just like the digital version, the Pawsome Edition is out right now. It’s priced at $39.99 USD for the Switch, and at $49.99 USD for the Switch 2.
