While there’s no new Far Cry in the near-future (that we know of), some classic titles have gotten surprise performance improvements.
Ah, classic Far Cry
One of publisher Ubisoft’s biggest series’, even today, Far Cry has been around since 2004. Almost every release has been completely different in locale and cast of course. And that fact has worked to keep things somewhat fresh. Even so though, there are some titles that click with fans a little more than others.
Far Cry 3 is one of those, a game that’s become a seminal offering. Not only did it offer up some great first-person shooter play, but it also had the memorable (and mad as a hatter) villain called Vaas. His is still name that’s bandied about the gaming-sphere. Heck, he even made a guest appearance in the DLC for the latest release, Far Cry 6.
Getting back to the game in question though, Ubisoft has seen fit to make it a tad more modern. That means a 60fps upgrade, for fans who might want to dive back in via modern consoles. Both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S have the update ready to roll as you read this, and if you have a digital copy, it’ll be automatically applied. Hang on though, as there’s a bit more that you should know.
Farther still
Far Cry 3 isn’t the only FC title to get the upgrade. Nope, Ubi went a couple of steps further. So right there with it, are both its futuristic spinoff Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and the prehistoric Far Cry Primal. If you’re unfamiliar with any of the above, Read on for the official word.
Ubisoft press release
- Far Cry 3 – Revisit Rook Island with increased fluidity as you confront Vaas Montenegro, one of gaming’s most memorable villains. The 60 FPS boost enhances exploration, stealth, and the game’s fast-paced combat, making the defining Far Cry experience feel more immersive than ever.
- Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon – Dive back into the over-the-top, neon-drenched homage to 1980s action films, now with smoother gunplay and traversal. The sharper responsiveness amplifies the game’s explosive, tongue-in-cheek energy.
- Far Cry Primal – Return to the Stone Age and lead your tribe through the wilderness of Oros with more seamless movement, precise aiming, and fluid combat. The 60 FPS upgrade elevates the game’s visceral survival experience and lush prehistoric world.
All that and sale prices too
Along with the update, all three of the named games are on sale. How deep are the cuts? Well, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a mighty 60% off. Not enough? Far Cry 3 and Far Cry Primal go one step beyond, and are a whopping 75% off their usual prices. So if you’ve been waiting to dive into any of the above, now might be your time.
It’s worth saying too, that all three of the games are “available at no additional cost” for Ubisoft+, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers. So if you’re in any of those camps, feel free to hit those downloads.
