Comics fans champing at the bit to play MARVEL Cosmic Invasion can take a peek at the opening cinematic.
The Cosmic Invasion comes home
Announced earlier this year, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is looking pretty darn sharp as it heads towards release. The side-scrolling beat ’em up from Dotemu and Tribute Games features a mighty roster of 15 playable heroes. That’s plus a storyline based on 2006’s Annihilation, and themes that’ve been mostly yanked from the Marvel U’s 90s era.
Arch-foe Annhilius plays the main heavy in the title (obviously), bringing an army of creeps to Earth from the Negative Zone. Not that they’re alone though. Included in the title will be a full compliment of Marvel baddies as well.
While we’re not completely sure of the makeup of that villainous opposition, we got a little tease thanks to a new trailer. Not featuring gameplay, the fresh look is actually the opening cinematic, and it’s chock full of classic Marvel Comics goodness.
The animation’s hand-drawn action is the perfect chance to get reacquainted with MARVEL Cosmic Invasion‘s 15-fighter playable roster, which boasts all-time greats like Spider-Man, Wolverine and Storm as well as surprise inclusions of deep cut favorites like Nova and Phyla-Vell. Watch our heroes assemble below to defeat the most menacing band of Super Villains our galaxy has faced yet.
Dotemu press release
Ready to rock the Marvel U and take on Annihilus? You’re time is nigh, as MARVEL Cosmic Invasion is set to hit the PC, Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on December 1st, 2026.
A universe, updated
As you can see from the above, there are quite a few classic elements in play for MARVEL Cosmic Invasion. Not everything fits like a glove for 90s fans, but most does, and the storyline it plays off of is a fan-fave. None of that is a coincidence either. The development team at Tribute Games dug deep into the source material for their inspiration, we definitely think it shows.
Said ‘digging’ included making a trip to a local comics shop, to scope out both series’ and storylines that would factor into the action. Join Narrative Designer Yannick Belzil in the video below, to get the full story.
