Back and looking better than ever courtesy of Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, is Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered.
The Legacy continues
It’s hard to imagine that a series that was as popular as Legacy of Kain could vanish completely, but that’s exactly what happened after 2003’s Legacy of Kain: Defiance. That title was a culmination of sorts for both the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver lines, both of which were born from the original Legacy of Kain title.
In the decades since that last release however, there’s been nothing to report outside of rumor. Well, that’s to say until the (relative) surprise announcement of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered. Bringing the turn of the millennium classics back is Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics, though not quite as you might remember them.
The two titles are rolled into one pack, with a fresh coat of paint and some modern gameplay niceties.
Coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the original Legacy of Kain™ Soul Reaver, Legacy of Kain™ Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is the perfect opportunity for long-time series fans and newcomers alike to experience Kain and Raziel’s epic conflict. Immerse yourself in a timeless story of vampires, betrayal and revenge as you explore the hauntingly beautiful land of Nosgoth in higher fidelity than ever before.
Play the adventures your way. Toggle on-the-fly between the games’ original visuals and remastered graphics, and enjoy improved controls. Discover new features like an in-game map and compass, photo mode, achievements and more!
Aspyr press release
As you can see there, Raziel is looking a fair bit better than when last we saw him. The graphics for both games have gotten a substantial improvement, though flipping back and forth on the fly between the original and new looks is possible too. That’s always a nice feature to have, if for nothing else than nostalgia’s sake.
Aside from the looks, fans will also find a new map and compass included, to better navigate the world of Nosgoth. Those are in addition to a photo mode, as well as achievements and trophies, and host of bonus materials. The pack includes not just the games, but also an interactive lore map, concept art, and “environments from the fabled “Lost Levels””, according to the press release.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is out right now for the Switch, PC, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
