Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles getting a re-release in January

Typically not mentioned when Star Wars classics come up, the arcade-y action of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles is coming back.

You have the power

Now, don’t get us wrong, because we don’t have anything against Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles. Nothing at all actually, as the game seems like it might be a heck of a lot of fun, with its straightforward, action take on the now-classic film, The Phantom Menace.

But even so, it’s also not a title that seems to come up ever when discussing gems from the property’s history. Would that make it a lost gem? Maybe, but if it is, then Aspyr and Lucasfilm Games are looking to remind fans that it’s worth remembering and playing.

Revealed earlier this week, Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles will indeed be coming back around, landing on modern consoles and the PC in updated form. No, this isn’t a full remaster, as there doesn’t seem to be any visual upgrading in play. Instead the new version of the game will sport “enhanced gameplay, models, environments, game modes, and more”, according to the press release.

Fans will be able to hack into the prequel era’s droid army with lightsabers and keep them at bay with the power of the Force. While that’s nothing different for a Star Wars title, the kick with this particular game comes in the makeup of its roster. Yes, Obi-Wan Kenobi is there and playable, but fans will also be able to field Mace Windu, Plo Koon, Adi Gallia, and Qui-Gon Jinn. That’s not even mentioning the unlockable characters, who are now unlocked from the start, like “Darth Maul, Captain Panaka, Queen Amidala and more.”

For those who enjoy opening up new heroes to play as, no worries, as there are all-new hidden characters also. Included in with a 13 character deep selection will be “the Rifle Droid, Tusken Raider, Ishi Tib, and Weequay”.

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original STAR WARS Episode I: Jedi Power Battles with this fast-paced lightsaber action game featuring enhanced gameplay, models, environments, game modes, and more. Use the power of the Force and your trusty lightsaber against legions of droids, assassins, and other legendary foes as you fight through iconic locations from STAR WARS: Episode I – The Phantom Menace™ like Theed Palace and more.

Aspyr press release

Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles sports a ten level campaign, that comes complete with solo and couch co-op play. It’s also set to stock versus and training modes, bonus mini-games, and “more surprises” according to Aspyr.

Fans can look for Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles to appear once again on January 23rd, 2025. The title will be available for the Switch, modern Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and the PC.
