Mario & Luigi: Brothership brings the title duo back for more RPG action

One of the biggest surprises at today’s Nintendo Direct, Mario & Luigi: Brothership to the tropics for an island-hopping adventure.

Fun in the sun

If you checked out today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, then you saw more than one pretty big surprise. Metroid Prime 4, The Legend of Zelda, and more were all one the card, but it led off with the return of a role-playing fan-favorite. That would be Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which will bring the formerly handheld series to the Switch with all the trimmings.

As with past Mario & Luigi adventures, Brothership shakes up the usual narrative, this time bringing the Bros to the tropics. Stocked with plenty of tag-team heroics, the pair will hop aboard Shipshape Island, a vehicle that’s part ship, part island, and all conveyance. As they traverse their new sunny locale, they’ll meet all-new characters, as well as a few familiar faces like the Princess and the Mushroom Kingdom’s number one heavy.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership: All aboard for an island-hopping RPG adventure starring Mario and Luigi! The brothers are back for a brand-new entry in the Mario & Luigi series, where they set sail on Shipshape Island (part ship, part island) to navigate the vast world of Concordia. Play as the mustachioed pair and explore islands that range from tropical rainforests to bustling cities. Along the way, meet new friends to help you on your journey and encounter familiar faces from the Mushroom Kingdom like Peach and Bowser. Keep the “Brothership” afloat and rely on Mario and Luigi’s bond to save the day by employing Bros. Moves to get past obstacles and powerful Bros. Attacks to claim victory in a dynamic twist on turn-based combat. Mario & Luigi: Brothership launches on Nintendo Switch Nov. 7.

Nintendo press release

As you can see above, Mario & Luigi: Brothership is coming up to cap off what might be the final full year for the Nintendo Switch. Fans will find it in stores and on the eShop on November 7th, 2024.
