Promising dark-fantasy RPG The Thaumaturge delayed into 2024

Just pushed into 2024, 11bit Studios and Fool’s Theory’s The Thaumaturge looks like a terrific trip through a dark fantasy world.

We have to admit, The Thaumaturge hasn’t exactly been on our radar. The title means “workers of wonders” (according to Google) and casts players as one of those, named Wiktor Szulski. The upcoming title is looking shockingly good too, with a detailed world that seems to drip with detail and personality, and some interesting gameplay that definitely deviates from the norm.

Here’s the latest look at it, via a gameplay reveal that took place about a month back:

In this narrative-focused RPG, players take on the role of Wiktor Szulski, a thaumaturge on a quest to make peace with his past. Unfolding in 1905 Warsaw, the story revolves around the complex theme of inner demons and how in this world that can mean more than just a mental burden. In The Thaumaturge, demons are known as Salutors who feed on one’s darkest secrets and only the titular thaumaturge has the ability to relieve someone of this burden.

Watch the trailer? Interested? Well, now comes the bad news, as The Thaumaturge was originally slated for a December 5th launch but is now coming in 2024. 11bit Studios revealed that today, with a new launch set for February 20th, 2024 on PC.

The publisher cites that, during “finishing touches” that were being made to the title, developer Fool’s Theory noticed that there was an “opportunity to add more polish and quality”. So that’s just what they’re going to be allowed to do, with that new later launch.

We should also add that the above is just for the PC versions of the game. There will also be Xbox Series X|S and PS5 releases for The Thaumaturge, but just when those will be along is still up in the air.
