Prepare for action in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s new live-action trailer

Get psyched and soldier-up. It’s time to visit The Lobby, in a new short created for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.

Lock and load

It’s almost time to revisit one of the biggest first-person shooter universes in modern gaming, Modern Warfare. And with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III on the horizon, Activision has prepped a look at the game’s multiplayer lobby, imagining it as if it was a real-world location.

From John Wick director David Leitch, it’s tough not to pick up the vibe of those films, though there’s also a “The Matrix” feel happening, all highlighted with plenty of blood-red lighting. One interesting note too, as Leitch was a motion capture actor of the original Call of Duty, which took the battlefields of World War II 20 years ago.

Kinda cool, and a fact that definitely brings things full circle.

The Modern Warfare III film brings the in-game Call of Duty video game lobby to life, as we follow an Operator, KillSwitch, getting ready for action. He passes through a real-life Call of Duty lobby, watching fellow Operators preparing for the game action, as a countdown clock signals 30 seconds to match time. Call of Duty fan and musician 21 Savage, NBA star Devin Booker and UK artist Central Cee play cameos in the video directed by Hollywood film director David Leitch. The campaign also marks the first time in-game characters including Ghost, Gaz, Makarov, Valeria and Graves are featured alongside everyday gamers and celebrities.

Activision press release

If you’re a long time fan of CoD especially, you might recognize the “There’s a Soldier in All of Us” line at the close of the movie. A former tag-line, this is the first time that the franchise has made use of it since 2017, and its return is meant to highlight the “ever-growing player community” of Call of Duty, according to Activision.

Aside from the guest-stars too, the music is an original track, composed by One Republic’s Ryan Tedder and including “original verses by 21 Savage and the chorus sung by D4vd”. Dubbed “Call Me Revenge”, the track was just released today and is meant to not only be a slick accompaniment to the new trailer, but also a theme song for Modern Warfare III’s campaign.
