J. Michael Stracyznski returning to Marvel for Captain America #1

The flagship Captain America title is rebooting its run yet again, and it’s bringing a big name writer with it in J. Michael Stracyznski.

You know the name

Whatever walk of the pop culture landscape is your niche, you probably know the name J. Michael Stracyznski. Not only has the writer been a comics mainstay in the 2000’s, but he also created one of the best-loved sci-fi franchises of the 90s with Babylon 5.

Though even with that inexorably linked to his name, Stracyznski isn’t heading back to the great beyond (that we know of). Instead he’s transporting himself back once again to Marvel’s universe for a new series run. And that’ll come by way of Captain America, with Marvel’s latest reboot of the triple-A book.

Stracyznski Will be taking the reigns of a Cap title that’ll pick up after the tumult of the current dual-Cap event called Cold War. From the description given by the writer, it’s set to be a little different than what you might be used to.

Decades ago, Steve Rogers changed the world forever. Now powerful and insidious forces are assembling to ensure he never does it again. Past, present and future collide as the man out of time reckons with an existential threat determined to set the world on a darker path at any cost…

Speaking with io9, Straczynski says, “Overall, the goal is to do some really challenging stories, some really fun stories, and get inside Steve’s head to see who he really is in ways that may not have been fully explored before. If folks like what I did with Peter in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and Thor in, well… THOR, then they should give this a shot, because I’m really swinging for the bleachers in this one!”

Marvel Comics press release

It’ll be Stars and Stripes forever, when Captain America #1 hits the stands this coming September.
