Magnetar unveils new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Physical media isn’t coign away any time soon, at least it isn’t if Magnetar has anything to say about it. Check out the company’s newest.

Forever physical

We’re just coming off of a year that saw the shift get even heavier towards digital media over physical. It’s a conversion that’s been a long time coming, but was undeniably hastened by the now-waning pandemic years, which saw people downloading instead of ordering discs.

Some though, still believe in the physical realm over the digital. I’m definitely in that camp myself, even though I own plenty of non-physical media. The reason is pretty obvious honestly. If a movie or game is delisted from online storefronts, that’s kind of it, but if you own a physical copy then you’re more or less good to go. Well, for as long as you have access to hardware that runs it anyway.

Hardware manufacturer Magnetar seems to understand the point, and to that end the company has a killer sounding new Blu-ray player on tap. Dubbed the UDP800, the unit offers a laundry list of features and compatibilities.

“Today’s consumers expect a high-quality viewing experience on the new Ultra HD Premium televisions that support Dolby Vision and HDR10+,” said Jacques Bensahkoun, CEO of Archisoft Group. “The new MAGNETAR UDP800 offers robust performance with impressive, crisp, and crystal-clear picture quality; supporting playback of various disc formats like 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, AVCHD, SACD, CD, Kodak Picture CD, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DVD±R DL, and BD-R/RE. This new player is compatible with the 2 most popular HDR formats to date, namely: Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The extended metadatas from Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are used and transmitted to the TV to improve picture quality and ensure the best possible customer user experience. In addition, the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X multipoint audio formats are reproduced in their maximum quality.”

In addition to all of that, Magnetar points out that the UDP800 features higher throughput, both in audio and video, than digital streaming services. The company says that most streamers serve up 4k streaming at 10 and 26 Mbps, with peaks at 41 Mbps. On the flip side, the UDP800 delivers between 60 and 80 Mbps, with peaks at 128 Mbps. Pretty big difference there.

While all of this sounds top shelf, it also comes at a cost. Though if you’re a film fanatic, it just might be worth the investment. The Magnetar UDP800 is available on the Magnetar store here, and is priced in at $1599 USD.
