SDCC 22: A Steranko classic getting the action figure treatment with Talon

Hailing from the savage days of the barbarian comes Jim Steranko’s Talon The Timeless. A character decades of history, Talon is getting some plastic.

Everybody likes barbarians

It does seem like barbarian fiction in general is making at least a small comeback. Massive back in the 80s, it’s obviously been a while, so it’s probably about time that stuff like Masters of the Universe and Conan come back around.

Now you can add one more name to that short list, with Talon. Created back in 1972 by comics legend Jim Steranko, Talon The Timeless is turning 50, and to celebrate he’s making the leap to the action figure realm.

That comes courtesy of Apex Comics Group (who look to be publishing Talon comics soon) and high-end toy-maker Executive Replicas. If you don’t know ER, the company has been hard at work collecting some top flight licenses like Red Sonja, and Talon is the latest addition.

“I grew up seeing Talon the Timeless™ images on posters, articles, and prints,” said Executive Replicas co-owner Winston Dunlop. “This will the first time ever that an action figure based on Steranko’s character has been done. I’m a truly blessed: Not many get to meet their childhood hero, but then to stay in contact with them for decades and then actually work with them on the very characters you grew up admiring? It’s a dream come true. It is an honor to be doing this with Steranko.”

Apex Comics press release

No release date just yet for Talon, though as you can see, the figure is looking pretty sharp. Also something to keep in mind, is that Executive Replicas will be expanding its agreement with Apex, adding Mariano Nicieza’s Phazer from the book of the same name. So stay tuned for that as well.
