The King is back. Or, coming back at least, as SNK’s King of Fighters XV finally has a solid release date, landing on consoles and PC in February.
All hail
We’ve been following what’s looked like one of the best King of Fighters titles in years for a while now. At times it’s seemed like it was never actually going to see release, but never mind that, as KoF15 indeed is on the way.
The publisher revealed a February 2022 launch date at Gamescom this week, along with a brand new, full length trailer. But that’s not all, as we also got a more detailed peek at what the title will offer in terms of gameplay.
As you’ll see, the fighter still features the same 3 on 3 gameplay for its matches, and serves up both offline and online play. Actually, quite a bit of online play, as up to 8 players can get together.
MAX Mode will be improved for the game as well, and MAX Mode (Quick) makes its debut. That will be a fast “rush function” that “will allow for combos to be carried out by rapidly pressing attack buttons”.
On top of all of that, there’s also something entirely new called Shatter Strike. That’ll serve as a counter system, allowing players to strike back on their foes. So there’s quite a bit ‘new’ happening here.
Check it out in action:
King of Fighters XV features 39 characters including classic popular characters, resurrected fan favorites, and those crucial to the unfolding events. This is the first time the heroes from each saga have come together making this an unmissable moment in the King of Fighters storyline. The latest installment in the King of Fighters saga continues from the previous title’s Story Mode. Heroes from the Orochi, NESTS, and Ash Sagas have all joined King of Fighters XV, and this time, the story is coming to an explosive climax.
