Crash Bandicoot 4 launching this year for next-gen, Switch and PC

Activision’s first “true” Crash sequel since the 90s is hitting the Xbox Series X|S and PS5. But that’s not all as PC and Switch versions are coming up too.

If you’re a Crash Bandicoot fan, then chances are you’ve already found a way to play Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time. The game, launched last year, has brought the orange marsupial back to platforming prominence with excellent gameplay and a terrific new look.

But if you were waiting for the game to make an inevitable move to a more current set of consoles, then you’re in luck. Actually, you’re in luck if you were waiting for word on a move to any other platform than the Xbox One and PS4.

That’s because Activision has announced that Crash 4 is officially heading to the Xbox Series X|S, the PS5, the PC, and the Nintendo Switch. Yep, that just about covers it. And it’s happening this year, though there’s no date yet on when those new launches might take place.

Here’s the official word from the publisher:

Developer Toys for Bob has been hard at work to bring Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time to new platforms. Fans on PlayStation® 5 and Xbox Series X|S are in for some N. credible visuals when they see the game run in 4K with 60 FPS[2]. Additionally, players on either next-gen platform will enjoy quicker loading times to dive into the wumpa-eating action and 3D audio that will immerse them in all-new dimensions. What’s more, players who purchase, or already have, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on PlayStation® 4 or Xbox One will be entitled to receive next-gen upgrades at no cost (except in Japan) within the same console family[3] (including the ability to transfer saved data). 

PlayStation® 5 owners in particular will be in for an extra treat with DualSense wireless controllers bringing adaptive triggers to players’ fingertips. Fans will now be able to feel the force of Neo Cortex’s DNA-changing blaster and experience the grip as they grapple with Tawna’s Hookshot. Additionally, PlayStation® 5’s Activity Card feature will give players a clear breakdown of their progress throughout each of the game’s dimensions, providing guidance to achieve objectives and more.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time will have dedicated PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions, though as you might have guessed there’s a deal in place for owners of the now-last-gen versions. Xbox gamers will have theirs playable on their new consoles automatically thanks to Smart Delivery, and PS5 players will pay nothing to upgrade… unless you’re in Japan. For some reason.

As for Switch and PC fans, there are some notes for you too. Switch editions are available right now for pre-order, and will run you $39.99 USD. Those looking to play on the PC, can also pre-order as of today, though they’ll have to do so via Battle.net. Activision notes that there’s more info coming up for the PC version of Crash 4, so stay tuned for that.
