Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre begins Marvel’s Absolute Carnage

The Marvel Universe is about to get a whole new look at Carnage. The slaughter begins in next month’s Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre.

Absoute beginnings

Something’s set Cletus Kasady off. Like, more off than usual. Maybe it was the recent happenings in the monthly Venom book, since that kind of involved all symbiotes. Whatever it was, the super-powered serial killer is on the loose and about to engage in the wholesale slaughter of anyone who’s ever worn a living costume.

Absolute Carnage, the official title for the event series, won’t begin till August, but there’s a taste arriving at retail before that. Marvel has announced that things will actually kick off in Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre. That book arrives next month, in July, and will see Cletus set his sights on the former Mania…

“When I took this project, I warned Editorial that it was going to be vicious and bloody and cruel.,” said writer and Mania co-creator Cullen Bunn. “I’m leaning into Carnage’s horror vibe here. This is absolutely a horror story, with Andi as the hero and Carnage as the unstoppable killer.”

With pencils from Alberto Jiminez Albuquerque and Joshua Cassara, and a script from Bunn, Web of Venom: Funeral Pyre hits stands on July 24th. Check out the unlettered preview below for a peek at what’s to come.
