The Switch got a little more bullety this week, with the arrival of a true classic. The R-Type series has arrived in the form of R-Type Dimensions EX.
A new dimension of shooting
Looking good and just as loaded with shooting as ever is R-Type, here in Dimensions EX. From Tozai Games, this new arrival for the Switch isn’t just a single game. It’s actually two classics in one. Both the original (remade) R-Type is included, as is R-Type II. All together, that’s 14 remade levels of blasting action.
And for those fans who are more into the originals than the remakes, you can flip between them all at the press of a button. That goes for both games in the pack, and you can even flip between 2D and 3D play. On top of all that, there’s also an “infinite mode” as well as a level select, slow-motion (for those who need that), and a couch co-op mode. That, friends, is a lot of R-Type.
Getting classic titles on Switch is always nice to see. Getting one with this much extra packed in is a little extra cool. Plus, I think this might be the only direct translation of R-Type 2 outside of the Gameboy version from back in the early 90s. Not totally sure about that one, since Super R-Type was kind of an RT2 port too, but you get what I’m saying.
R-Type Dimensions EX is out right now on the Nintendo Switch.
