Nintendo goes all in on Nindies for Switch launch

Think the Nintendo Switch’s lineup is a little lacking for launch? Then you’ll want to have a peek at their upcoming spread of indies.

Nindies ahoy!

Nindies: I love ’em, you love ’em, Nintendo loves ’em. And if you’re wondering what they are, well… they’re just indie games. Nintendo has taken a liking to calling them Nindies, but that title just refers to any indie game appearing on a Nintendo platform.

But if you dig indie games as much as they apparently do, then you’ll be happy to learn that there’ll be a few on hand for the Switch launch. The company says that a total of 60 indie games will appear on the Switch. And I assume they mean ‘by the end of the year’ with that statement.

For launch, the number will be just a tad lower, with a trio of them further filling in the sparse lineup. No that’s not a ton, but it’s a promising start. And that previously mentioned figure of 60 is extremely nice to see.

With any luck, the Switch will be a playground for independent games. That’d be a boon for Nintendo, who really just needs content for their fledgling console, and lots of it. But that’s down the line.

As of right now, here’s what you can expect on March the 3rd:

• FAST RMX from Shin’en Multimedia: Challenge your friends to local split-screen competition or take part in online races against players from all over the world. This lightning-fast anti-gravity racer is exclusive to Nintendo Switch.
• Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment from Yacht Club Games: The latest DLC for the critically acclaimed hit Shovel Knight is a full-featured game starring Specter Knight, one of the enemies from the original game. The massive campaign includes even more content than the last DLC, Plague of Shadows. Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is exclusive to Nintendo Switch for a limited time.
• Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove from Yacht Club Games: For Shovel Knight’s biggest fans, Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove includes the original Shovel Knight game, as well as all previously released DLC – even Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment! Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove will be exclusive to NintendoSwitch for a limited time.
