Quarter Arcades reveals Atari’s Battlezone

Another arcade classic is getting a mini-cab from Quarter Arcades. Atari’s iconic dual-stick tank battler Battlezone has hit pre-orders.

Are you familiar with Quarter Arcades? Around for some time now, Quarter Arcades makes, well, quarter arcades. And by that, we mean ‘quarter-scale’, not arcades that take quarters. The company has a host of miniature cabinets in its catalogue, including some of the biggest games from gaming’s golden age, like PAC-MAN and BurgerTime.

These cabs are typically forged with incredible attention to detail as well. Side-art, faux coin doors, lighted marquees, and authentic layouts are all pretty typical. Now that lineup is about to expand too, with a somewhat under-appreciated classic in Battlezone.

From Atari, Battlezone was first released way back in 1980. The quarter-muncher threw players into a tank battle, featuring dual joystick controls and even a simulated periscope to view the battlefield. From the looks of Quarter Arcades‘ 18″ tall offering, all of that will be intact.

The Battlezone Quarter Arcade has been meticulously crafted using high quality materials to deliver exceptional authenticity and playability. Featuring a 5-inch full colour TFT display in a 4:3 ratio with a CRT effect lens, the cabinet faithfully recreates the distinctive wireframe visuals that made Battlezone famous. A built in 3W speaker with volume control brings the battlefield to life, while USB-C power and an internal rechargeable Li-ion battery offer flexible options for both display and play.

Blasting into pre-orders

While this little guy should make for a slick display piece in a video game collection, Quarter Arcades says that the game should run just as you might remember it. Battlezone will use a bespoke emulator, and should control as it did decades ago, thanks to those twin sticks. And while you probably won’t want to use the removable periscope viewer and arcade step while you’re playing, they should make for a nifty display piece nonetheless.
