From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl coming this fall

A full exploration of this summer’s DC Studios film is coming to stores in September, with From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl.

Supergirl gets artistic

The next big film from DC Studios, following up on last year’s Superman, is none to her than Supergirl. Brought to life by actress Milly Alcock, Kara Zor-El’s upcoming big screen appearance will be the first in a long time where she’s the spotlighted star. And while it’s notable just for that, it’ll look to further flesh out the fledgling DCU.

To that end, fans can look for more of the cosmic side of the new universe to appear. From the trailers, it looks like we can expect aliens aplenty, along with a few off-Earth locales as well. That’s not even mentioning a pretty big co-star though, with Jason Momoa’s Lobo.

If you’re excited for the film, then you might want to take a look at the official and accompanying book. From DC and author James Field, From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl will detail the Kryptonian’s latest arrival on the silver screen. Along with that though, it’ll also touch on the comics, exploring Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Authored by James Field, this 224-page collection brings together concept art, production design, annotated script pages, and never-before-seen materials that illuminate the dialogue between comic and film. Featuring visuals from the creative team behind Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow—writer Tom King, artist Bilquis Evely, and colorist Matheus Lopes—the volume places their work in conversation with the film’s bracing and otherworldly visual language. Evely’s expressive illustrations appear alongside early cinematic explorations, revealing how themes, motifs, and character moments traveled from layout to finished page, and from storyboard to set. New interviews with the comic’s creators and the filmmakers behind the much-anticipated summer epic provide insight into the collaborative process that guided Kara’s transformation across mediums.

DC press release

From Comic to Screen: The Art of Supergirl is heading to stores for release on September 29th, 2026. The hardcover tome will clock in at 224 pages total, and feature cover art from Bilquis Evely, plus an afterword from comics legend Jim Lee.
