The latest title from Capcom is a brand new property called Pragmata. And apparently, it’s quite the hit with genre fans.
Does Pragmata mean ‘win’?
Just released last week, Pragmata is noteworthy for a few reasons. For one thing, it’s a fresh series from Capcom. The longtime publisher and gaming mainstay has more than a few IP’s to its name for sure. But, that said, it’s not all that often that we see something brand new from the name.
Pragmata is every bit that though, sending players on a trip to a moon base as one Hugh Williams. Sent to the installation after it went dark, Hugh’s task of finding out what happened seems straightforward enough. Once he’s there though, he finds an AI gone mad. Even worse, there’s an army of robot foes out to make sure he never leaves. Good thing there’s Diana.
An android in the form of a small child, Diana can hack the game’s mechanized enemies. That gives Hugh the chance to suitably blast them, and clear the way back to Earth. It’s a gameplay loop that was developed by a relatively young team according to Capcom, who looked to fuse action and puzzle gameplay.
On top of that play style too, the theme of Diana and Hugh also seeks to create a father/daughter feel. Add it all up, and you have a game that’s pretty different, and looks to be yet another smash hit for the publisher.
As mentioned above, the game had reportedly moved in excess of a million copies in just its first two days on the market. But the launch isn’t quite done. Pragmata is out for all platforms here in the US, but Asian Switch 2 players haven’t gotten their copies yet. Fans in “Japan and other parts of Asia” can look for that on April 24th, according to Capcom.
So, yeah, those sales figures are probably going to get even better.
“As a completely new IP, PRAGMATA represents a new challenge for Capcom, built from the ground up with an original world and gameplay concept. We are truly delighted that so many players around the world have enjoyed the game, enabling us to reach this milestone of one million units sold. Moving forward, we will continue making every effort to deliver the appeal of PRAGMATA to an even broader audience.”
