Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown’s Sargon returns in the “Mask of Darkness” DLC

A major new expansion arrives to close out the current era of Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia, with the Mask of Darkness DLC.

A whole new world

Well, color us surprised, as we somehow didn’t even know that there was a big expansion pack en route for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Indeed though, the excellent action/platformer has welcomed in a whole new world of action, in Mask of Darkness.

Promised to be “Sargon’s darkest story” yet according to Ubisoft, Mask of Darkness sets the Persian hero against Radjen. The assassin amongst the base game’s team of Immortals, Radjen has hunted Sargon down and she’s trapped him in her Mind Palace.

It’s there that he encounters fresh challenges and hazards, as well as new enemies and bosses, all spread out across four biomes. From the looks of the launch trailer too, this is a very different world, and is a much more horror-themed adventure than the original.

Sargon is being hunted by one the assassination specialist of the Immortals, Radjen. When he finally faces her, he gets trapped in her Mind Palace, a corrupted dimension of dark magic filled with dreamlike landscapes and otherworldly creations. Target of a deadly manhunt and with his soul on the line, Sargon must fight his way out of nightmarish environments and epic battles to uncover the secrets that lie behind the Mask of Darkness, buried deep within Radjen’s mind.

In this new story, players will discover four surprising and surreal new biomes with more than ten new types of traversal obstacles, including deadly traps and merciless mechanisms that range from lasers to teleportation portals. In between platforming sequences, they will face six otherworldly new enemy archetypes, as well as three epic Bosses – along with new combat abilities to overcome them granted by three new Amulets.

Getting into the darkness

If you’re into what you saw above, and are itching to dive back into the game’s particular action, there are a few ways to do so. First and foremost, Mask of Darkness is available right now, and as a standalone purchase, that’ll expand that base game for a shockingly low cost of entry, just $4.99 USD.

If you don’t have that base game though, Ubi has you covered there as well. Mask of Darkness is included with the Complete Edition of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, for $49.99 USD. The Complete Edition comes stocked with “Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown base game, the Immortals outfit, the Prosperity bird amulet, the digital adventure guide, the DLC, and two new outfits for Sargon inspired by Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones”.

But wait, there are even more options. On top of both of the above paths, there’s also the “Complete Upgrade Pack”. That is meant to upgrade those who already own the base game, and want one all-encompassing option if they want to get more out of the game. The Upgrade Pack comes loaded with “the DLC, 3 outfits for Sargon, 1 amulet and the digital adventure guide. That’ll cost you $9.99 USD.

And finally, if you didn’t know, Ubisoft is celebrating the 35th anniversary of the entire Prince of Persia franchise, and is dropping a free Prince of Persia: Warrior Within outfit for use in The Lost Crown. Look for that some time soon.
