Classic vampire action titles Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver are coming to Blaze’s handheld, the Evercade.
Giga cool
An iconic series, Legacy of Kain is making something of a comeback as of late. There’s a graphic novel that is set to hit Kickstarter some time soon, though at the time of that particular reveal there were no new games to get pumped for. Well, while they’re not completely new games, this Evercade news is definitely exciting.
Blaze’s handheld console will in fact play host to a new collection including both the original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and its arguably more popular spinoff, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Both games will be included on one of Evercade’s new Giga Carts, which allows for much bigger games to be offered on the console.
We’re pretty sure that this is the first time that anything from the series has being offered in years, and we’re all but sure that it’s the first time the games will be gracing a portable. Not that the handheld Evercade will be the only place you’ll be able to play these gems.
Blaze adds that both will be playable across “all Evercade and Super Pocket devices” and the yet-to-be released bartop arcade unit, the Evercade Alpha.
The Legacy of Kain series debuted in 1996 with the first title Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and quickly became a critical and fan favourite with its vampiric setting, deep gameplay mechanics and engaging storyline. Following the successful introduction of the eponymous anti-hero Kain, the sequel Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was released in 1999 with industry legend Amy Hennig at the helm.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver garnered even more success and critical acclaim with the move from 2D role playing game mechanics to 3D third-person action, and introduced another anti-hero in Raziel. The game has lived long in the memory of many fans, spawning three sequels and cultivating a fan following over two decades after its initial release.
Blaze Entertainment press release
Officially titled Legacy of Kain Collection, the upcoming physical box is numbered 41 in the console’s library, and will go up for pre-order on August 30th. But while Evercade games usually have a lengthy pre-order period, that’s not going to be so for everyone’s favorite video game vamps.
Legacy of Kain Collection will actually launch some time next month, along with the Bitmap Brothers Collection 2.
