Retro shooter Warhammer 40K: Boltgun expanding next month with “Forges of Corruption”

The mission isn’t quite finished yet. Focus Entertainment and Auroch Digital’s Warhammer 40K: Boltgun is set to get a little bigger.

For Ultramar!

Released last year to more than a little critical and fan acclaim, Warhammer 40K: Boltgun was a revelation for retro-minded fans. The shooter combined the iconic Games Workshop license with something it never had before, a late-90s FPS form-factor. Starring a lone Ultramarine, Boltgun sent players on a mission to purge the corruption of Chaos across a full range of locations, using an arsenal ripped right from the tabletop games.

Today Focus Entertainment and developer Auroch Digital announced that the mission isn’t quite done yet, and a fresh expansion is on the way in short order. Dubbed Forges of Corruption, the DLC will deliver a wholly new adventure that takes place on a corrupted forge world. And naturally, it’s one that will include both new enemies to combat and new weapons to do it with.

Here’s your first look:

Your favorite Ultramarine is back! Grab your holy chainsword and trusty Boltgun and prepare for another adrenaline-pumping shootout. The “Forges of Corruption” DLC takes Boltgun’s epic bloodfest to another level.

Explore new environments and stop Chaos corruption before it engulfs the entire world of Graia! Exterminate new enemies, including the monstrous Helbrute, the heavy weapon-wielding Havoc, and the vicious lightning claws of the Terminator. Purge foes with new weapons – burn hordes of heretics with the scorching Multi-melta or blow them away with the Missile Launcher.

For new players, Boltgun’s upcoming Forges of Corruption Edition, featuring the full base game and new DLC, will be the perfect way to grab all the game’s content at a reduced price. Prepare for the glorious, gory purge on June 18!

Focus Entertainment press release

The Horde (and an update) is coming

As you can see in the trailer above, the expansion isn’t the only new inclusion coming for Warhammer 40K: Boltgun. While Forges of Corruption is paid DLC, there’ll also be a free update arriving, that includes both a navigation guide and a full-on ‘survive as long as you can’ Horde mode. That will of course toss waves of foes against players, complete with 4 difficulty levels and a full collection of achievements.

Also packed into the update will be “numerous bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements”, so if you’ve had any issues with the game, this might take care of them. And as mentioned too, the date for all of this is quite soon indeed.

Both the Forges of Corruption DLC and the updates will be landing for the PC, Xbox, and PlayStation editions of Warhammer 40K: Boltgun on June 18th, 2024. You’l note that the Switch version isn’t mentioned there, but have no fear it’ll definitely be along. It’s just that Focus and Arch don’t have a window just yet.
