The first “open-world” Star Wars game, Outlaws launches in August

Star Wars Outlaws has an official release date, and will arrive on consoles and PC just in time to close out the summer.

Open… galaxy?

First revealed last year, publisher Ubisoft’s first Star Wars game is looking pretty impressive. Officially an open-world title, which is the first for the property, Outlaws allows players to slip into the boots of “scoundrel”, Kay Vess.

As Vess, fans will team up with a cute lil’ alien named Nix, as she hunts for the next big score. Not that things will be that simple, as Vess will attract all kinds of attention, including from some of the biggest criminal enterprises in the galaxy. Names like the Pyke Syndicate and the Hutt Cartel should be instantly recognizable, but add to those the Ashiga Clan** and Crimson Dawn, and you have a who’s who that’s both major and minor.

It’s a dangerous life for an outlaw, but at least there’s a big payoff.

“In search of true freedom, the resourceful Kay and Nix will journey through the underworld and across the Outer Rim, taking on jobs from syndicates, facing off against intimidating foes, avoiding oppressive Imperial rule and recruiting a skilled outlaw crew in order to pull off one of the greatest heists the galaxy has ever seen,” shared Julian Gerighty, Creative Director.

“Star Wars Outlaws invites fans to experience a side of the galaxy that has a treasure trove yet to be explored, the exploits of the scoundrels taking advantage of the golden age of the underworld. We’ve been inspired by Massive Entertainment’s dedication to bringing this aspect of Star Wars to life, including both iconic and new things for fans to explore in an open world,” said Douglas Reilly, vice president, Lucasfilm Games.

Ubisoft press release

We mentioned “open world” above, but this is really more of an open galaxy. While it doesn’t look like Star Wars Outlaws will allow for seamless travel, fans can expect to visit a multitude of worlds from both the classic films and the sequels. The likes of Canto Bight, Kijimi, Tatooine, Akiva, and Toshara** will all be on the manifest thanks to the Trailblazer, Vess’ ship. Once planetside, fans will won’t be limited to hoofing it either, as that speeder bike you see in the trailer will factor in.

Along with the new look and fresh details, Ubisoft has revealed that Star Wars Outlaws will be landing at retail on August 30th, 2024. Fans can look for it on the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC, as well as Amazon’s Luna platform.
