Dragon’s Dogma 2 rises for consoles and PC today

Not that the wait has been that long, but fans looking forward to Dragon’s Dogma 2 can snap up a copy of Capcom’s sequel today.

Forsooth

Revealed in-depth just last fall, Dragon’s Dogma 2 almost instantly shot to the top of many fantasy fans’ ‘most wanted’ lists. It was easy to se why, as the title returned players to the formerly niche world of Capcom’s sword and sorcery title, with plenty of new content to go along with it.

Since that unveiling, we’ve seen a bit more on the game, covering vocations, pawns, and the tale that’ll play out in the game. All that did was amp players up even more, and if you’re in that lot, then you’re going to be happy to know that the magical day has finally arrived.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a narrative-driven action RPG that places players in an immersive fantasy world as the Arisen, a champion whose heart is stolen by the Dragon. You will lead a party of up to three AI companions known as Pawns, including your custom main Pawn, and up to two additional Pawns that can be recruited offline or from other players while online. While the sequel’s setting mirrors the lush rolling hills of the classic Dragon’s Dogma™ and its Dark Arisen expansion, this original adventure takes place in a parallel world containing two nations with distinct approaches to the Dragon threat. Queen Regent Disa has installed a false Arisen to maintain control of the kingdom of Vermund for her son. Meanwhile, the beastren nation of Battahl considers the otherworldly Pawns to be a source of misfortune and have turned to worship of the Lambent Flame and their high priestess Nadinia to ward off calamity.

Capcom press release

From the party that you’ll assemble, to the quest against a dragon, that’s some big time high fantasy happening there. Built with the RE Engine too, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is looking fantastic, and features a world that’s about four times as big as the original game’s. Capcom promises that there’ll be plenty to do too, as that world is “densely populated with enemies, events, and locations rendered with the latest graphical technology”, according to the publisher.

And when Capcom say’s “densely populated”, it sure seems like there’s truth to that. Also according to the press release, there are over one thousand NPC’s in the world for players to interact with. And those will include what seems to be highlighted ones like “the bow-wielding Ulrika who has a deep connection to the Arisen, Nadinia the high priestess of the beastren, or a variety of other unique characters will form intricate relationships with the Arisen that set the stage for nuanced story moments.”

From all of that, it sounds like Dragon’s Dogma 2 might be a game to watch. And if you’re up for a little fantasy questing, it might scratch that itch here in the still-early goings of 2024. You can grab a copy of the game right now for the Xbox Series X|S, PS5, or PC.
