Head back to the front for strategic WWII action in Classified: France ’44

From developer Absolutely Games and Team17, Classified: France ’44 seeks to deliver turn-based tactics to the World War II arena.

Thinking ahead

You don’t often see games taking advantage of a turn-based control scheme when it comes to WWII. Actually, now that we think about it, you don’t see all that much of the second Great War these days at all, though there are still some titles looking to serve up something new for players.

Absolutely Games is one such, as the dev drops Classified: France ’44 onto consoles and the PC. A turn-based game through and through, this new game looks to tell a “lesser known story” from the European front, putting players in the shoes of the Jedburghs, special forces operating behind German lines.

“The whole team at Absolutely Games are thrilled to finally share Classified: France ’44 with the world. We set out to create our own unique take on the turn-based tactical genre, one that told the story of the nascent special forces and brave resistance fighters working heroically behind enemy lines, causing as much disruption and mayhem in the lead up to D-Day as possible. Our hope is that we achieved that and more – that what we created in Classified: France ’44 is an ambitious game that authentically mixes tactical stealth, intense firefights, strategic campaign, a wide range of characters, and unique mechanics for players to enjoy for years to come”.

James Brooksby, CEO, Absolutely Games

Featuring what looks to be a heavy dose of stealth action, “historically authentic”gameplay set in a campaign that has 15 possible endings, a morale system, and a mission-creation suite, Classified: France ’44 is out now for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
