John Cena talks Peacemaker in the newest Mortal Kombat 1 DLC trailer

Bringing peace (kind of) to MK1 this week is DC Comics’ own Peacemaker, and of course he’s voiced by actor John Cena.

Don’t forget Eagly

Launched late last year, Mortal Kombat 1 has reinvigorated the line of fighting games in a big way. The title featured a brand new storyline set in a rebooted MK universe, complete with new riffs on iconic fighters and story arcs.

Something that didn’t change though, was the series’ penchant for guest fighters by way of its post-launch downloadable content plans. One of those added on kombatants is none other than the foul mouthed DC Comics anti-hero known as Peacemaker. In a cool twist too, this video game appearance of the vigilante is actually the movie version, who’s both played and voiced by wrestler-turned-actor John Cena.

With the DLC arriving for purchase this week for all versions of the game, Warner Bros and Netherrealm have produced a little early look at Peacemaker in action. And as a bonus for fans, he’s talked up by the man himself, Cena.

…Based on the character he originated in The Suicide Squad film and continued in his own series Peacemaker on Max, John Cena lends his voice and likeness to the new playable character who brings a formidable moveset to Mortal Kombat 1, incorporating Peacemaker’s expert gunslinging skills, signature helmet abilities, and loyal bald eagle sidekick, Eagly, all complemented by his legendary dance moves and brash humor. Peacemaker, also known as Christopher Smith, is ready to challenge Liu Kang’s New Era of peace and will take on anyone and everyone who gets in his way.

Warner Bros press release

Peacemaker is out right now for those who own the Kombat Pack, as a kind of Early Access bonus. That ‘early’ period is only set to last for a day though, as all MK1 players can buy in how they prefer, and add him to their rosters starting tomorrow (March 6th, 2024). Also worth noting however, is that this season isn’t done yet, not by a long shot.

Along with Peacemaker, the game has so-far added Omni-Man (from Invincible), long-running MK villain Quan-Chi, and a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Johnny Cage. Still to come are playable versions of Ermac, Homelander, and Takeda Takahashi, as well as a still-unannounced selection of five Kameo Fighters that take advantage of that new gameplay system.
