Season 1 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is right around the corner

With the game in question just released, Activision is nonetheless talking post-launch DLC, and what fans can expect from Season 1.

It’s a whole new war

Well, maybe that subtitle isn’t exactly accurate, since this is Modern Warfare III we’re talking about. But although the property itself is well-known at this point, that’s not a reason to expect the content-train to stop delivering new stuff to do. And as goes that post-launch track, Activision has plenty planned with Season 1, set to launch later this very year.

Outside of strictly campaign content, it’s going to be a loaded plan too. The publisher says that fans can look for updates to the game’s multiplayer with three new 6v6 maps, fresh challenges for the zombies mode, and of course new stuff for Warzone. There’s also an “and more” tagged in the press release, so it seems plans might includes some totally new stuff or previously unrevealed returns as well.

Part of that might be Gunfight. If its anything like its last appearance in MWII, Gunfight will be a tight and suspenseful, round-based, 2v2 multiplayer mode. In its confines, you can forget respawns and regenerating health, because that isn’t on the table. Oh, and maybe also forget about your preferred loadouts too, since you’ll take what you’re given (every two rounds) in Gunfight. And if you don’t like it… well you’ll just have to make the best of it soldier.

As is typical with these updates and announcements, Activision has also provided a pretty deep guide to most of the above. Intel about the three new multiplayer maps, zombies additions (like a new Wonder Weapon), and lots more can be found here on the official blog.

If you’re wondering when you’ll get to play all of this, there’s no release date for Season 1 just yet. But stay frosty, because as we mentioned, it’s landing before the year closes out.
