Early access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III’s campaign starts today, and here’s how to play

It’s go time, with the campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III hitting for those who pre-ordered. Here’s what you can expect.

No Russian

As fans know well by now, Modern Warfare III is the first year-over-year sequel in the long line of Call of Duty games. It follows on the heels of MWII’s semi-cliffhanger ending, setting players in the boots of Task Force 141 operatives once again, and sending them after the international terrorist Vladimir Makarov.

For those who like to point at CoD games (in general) and say they lack story and memorable characters, we’d redirect those pointing-fingers to the current Modern Warfare, ’cause it’s pretty great. Much like with the previous incarnation, the rebooted series casts villain Makarov as a former military man who’s turned very, very bad. It actually seems as though the stakes are even higher in this new series, which grants Makarov an extending “grasp across the world.”

If you’ve been anxious to dive in, then your day has finally arrived. Activision announced the planned pre-launch schedule a few days back, and today at 10am pacific time is the official ‘early access’ unlock for the campaign.

That grants access not only to the main story missions, but players can also dig into Open Combat, which are new missions that give way more choice to how you tackle them. And on top of that, those playing will also receive Mission Completing Rewards. Those can include “Calling Cards, Operators, Double XP Tokens, and a special Multiplayer Weapon Blueprint”, according to the official CoD Blog.

You can check out a ton more on the new accessibility here, on the aforementioned Blog. But keep in mind that this is only the start of the Modern Warfare III ride. Multiplayer and zombies modes are yet to come, along with the full game’s release on November 8th, 2023.
