A battle royale Pac-Man game? That’s just what Bandai Namco is cooking up with Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs.
Pac all you want
Well, this is definitely something different for the Pac-Man franchise, and yet looks like you’d expect, at least to a degree. Just revealed, Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs sets players into a maze filled with dots, power-pellets, and ghosts. Sounds familiar, right? But what makes this particular title different is that there are other mazes, complete with other players, connecting to the one that you’re occupying.
The result is effectively a battle royale game, but with dot-munching and ghost-chasing instead of blasting and melee-ing. Then again, there kind of is melee action… just hit ‘play’ on the YouTube player below and see for yourself.
PAC-MAN MEGA TUNNEL BATTLE: CHOMP CHAMPS brings a lot of variety and features that make playing its uniquely PAC-MAN™ take on Battle Royale even more fun. In the game, players must eat their way through multiple interconnected mazes to become the Chomp Champ – a.k.a. the last PAC standing at the end of each match. Gain the upper hand on other players or turn the tables against Ghosts by utilizing a variety of Power Items which give PAC-MAN shields, enhanced speed, and more. Players can also sabotage their competition by using Power Items that help the Ghosts. Not only will they be able to chomp through PAC-MAN’s regular diet of dots and the occasional fruit, they can also chomp through other player-controlled PAC-MAN characters. Players can also assert their own unique style by personalizing their PAC with a fun variety of body, head, and face cosmetics.
Bandai Namco press release
Pac takes Manhattan
Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs will have a presence at NYCC this week, though not on the show floor. Fans will actually be able to play the game in question, plus check out other Pac-themed stuff at an “immersive experience” serving up “a blend of gaming, music, photo ops, giveaways, PAC-MAN appearances, and more”, according to Bandai Namco.
Dubbed “PAC-MAN Shine On”, the off-site event will take place every night during the show, from 5-10pm (eastern time, natch’) at “Lightbox”. A dedicated midtown event space, you’ll find Lightbox at 248 W 37th Street (New York, NY 10018), and you won’t need to spend anything extra to stop by to check out the Pac-action either.
Bandai Namco says that the event is free for all, though the company also warns that it will be limited in attendance. So basically, you might want to head over to the eventbrite page and grab some (still free) tickets anyway. That way you’re assured you can get in.
There’s also a bit more NYCC Pac-news to share, as fans should make sure to start watching the skies in NYC on October 12th. Bandai Namco says that there will be a special drone show starring Pac-Man himself.
