A free update is on the way for the Steam edition of Funcom’s survival title Conan Exiles, set to deliver new visuals and more.
Conan Exiles wheel of pain rolls on
“Conan has been the heart of Funcom for nearly two decades, and with the new Enhanced upgrade, Conan Exiles continues to carve its legacy in video games,” said Chief Creative Officer Joel Bylos.

These days, when you think ‘Conan’ it’s kind of tough not to immediately think of Funcom. Or, at the very least, one of Funcom’s various creations. There’ve been a few of those, though arguably none as successful as Conan Exiles.
Released almost eight years ago, Conan Exiles casts fans as an unknown, player-created character. Their journey starts staked-up in the desert, with little to defend themselves with. After a chance meeting with the title character though, those players go on to forge a life for themselves in the Hyborean Age. And depending on what you look to get out of the title, that could get much deeper than just combat.
But while it’s been a while since Funcom released Conan Exiles, the company has far from forgotten about it. Instead, it’s been hard at work on what sounds like a pretty slick update, one that’ll see the game retitled. That reveal was made today, in collaboration with Inflexion Games, taking wraps off of Conan Exiles Enhanced.

Conan, but Enhanced
According to Funcom, Conan Exiles Enhanced “brings eight years of post-launch content into a fully upgraded experience with dramatically improved visuals, enhanced performance, and modern rendering technology”. And if you’re wondering what that shakes out to mean, well, a decent amount actually.
The biggest element is probably the visual overhaul that the game is getting. Funcom says that Conan Exiles Enhanced was forged with Unreal Engine 5. And as a result, it targets “smooth 60+ FPS gameplay across Low, Medium, High, and Ultra settings on most PCs”. Those who have Steam Decks won’t be left out either, as the game looks to deliver “strong performance” for Valve’s handheld.

There’s more though. Amongst a host of additional enhancements, is that those who own the Isle of Siptah expansion will be able to now travel freely. A first for the game, players no longer have to pick between the Exiled Lands and the Isle (even in multiplay). The two locales have effectively been merged into one “continuous experience”.
“We know these upgrades are often sold at a premium or released as a separate, enhanced product, but we wanted to offer this for free to fans past, present, and future, as an anniversary gift and a token of our appreciation for their support. We are so proud of this game and the work our team has put into it over the years, and we want this upgrade to breathe new life and energy into the game for a long time to come.”
“We’re honored to collaborate with Funcom on upgrading Conan Exiles to Unreal Engine 5. Taking such a beloved game and updating it with new technology, materials and shaders, UI, and a range of quality-of-life (QoL) improvements creates a new foundation for the next decade of adventures for players around the world.” said CEO, Inflexion Games Aaryn Flynn.

Yes, you read right, the update is a free download for anyone who owns a copy of the original game, though exclusively for Steam. Fans can look for both the update to become available on May 5th, 2026. And before you ask, no, there’s no confirmation as of yet on the update heading to additional PC marketplaces.
While it sounds odd to us, that’s the way the Atlantean sword crumbles. And yes, the same goes for console versions of Conan Exiles as well, which will keep the game’s original look and name. Though, if you’re looking for a shred of hope, Funcom and Inflexion say they’ll be “evaluating releasing on those platforms in the future.” So, you never know.
