Red Dead Redemption (with Undead Nightmare) hit Switch and PS4 this month

There’s some classic western action coming to Nintendo Switch and the PS4 this month, with ports of Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption.

Better dead…

This kind of dropped in out of nowhere yesterday, but it looks like Red Dead Redemption is coming back around. Rockstar Games’ western epic is getting a pair of ports, aiming directly at the Nintendo Switch and surprisingly the PS4.

We say it’s a surprise simply for the fact that the Switch’s port serves a purpose. Namely, that it delivers the neo-classic for what’s essentially a portable console. The PS4? That kind of makes less sense. Though it’s certainly true that the last-generation PlayStation console’s audience is still pretty massive. So with that, maybe it’s less of a mystery than we’re making it.

In any event, the conversion has been handled by Double Eleven Studios, and the PS4 version will be backwards-compatible with the PS5. And “conversions” they are, as these are straight ports, bringing the title to new consoles with nothing added or taken away.

Well, almost nothing. Double Eleven has added in new language support, with “simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish”. Did we mention Undead Nightmare? Yeah, the expansion that featured a new story and remade the world of Red Dead’s old west into a zombie-apocalypse is onboard too.

One of the most critically acclaimed games of all time with over 170 Game of the Year Awards, Red Dead Redemption tells the story of former outlaw John Marston as he journeys across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico to track down the last remaining members of the notorious Van der Linde Gang in a bid to save his family. Relive, or experience for the first time, the events immediately following the epic tale of honor and loyalty in the 2018 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2 as Marston hunts down his former friends and outlaws Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and his former gang leader, Dutch van der Linde as the era of the cowboy comes to its end.

The Red Dead Redemption/Undead Nightmare bundle pack will be up and ready to play on Switch and PS4 on August 17th, in digital form. If you’re looking for something a little more cart/disc-based though, you’re gonna get your wish.

Both new versions of the game(s) will be delivered in boxed format as well, on October 13th, 2023.
