SDCC 23: Rob Liefeld coming back to Marvel once more, for pair of mystery projects

Classic Marvel artist and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld is indeed coming back to the House of Ideas, retiming with some familiar characters.

X marks the spot?

As most Marvel Comics fans know, Rob Liefeld has had his ups and downs with the publisher. Liefeld’s contributions have been incredibly impactful though, that’s not really arguable. His work on New Mutants/X-Force, and as one of the creative forces behind Cable and Deadpool has pretty much cemented his name in the annals of Comicdom.

He’s had a significant career outside of Marvel as well, founding Image Comics back in the 90s, and also working with DC and his own imprint here in the modern age. It’s worth noting that this won’t be the first time he’s back at Marvel since his first stint. He worked on Onslaught reborn, provided more from the aforementioned Marc With a Mouth, and introduced Major X.

So what is he working on this go-around? Well while Marvel hasn’t officially detailed what the stories will be, the Liefeld news was presented with the pair of illustrations that you see below.

As you can see, both are slotted for release in 2024, with Time to Kill involving Major X and First Contact seeming to bring together the original X-Men team and Cable. With the connections that Cable and Major X have, could it be that both projects are linked in some way? Seems likely.

Again though, we have no idea, since Marvel ain’t talking just yet.
