The PC and PS5 editions of Baldur’s Gate 3 get bumps, hitting earlier and later, respectively

The expansive world of Baldur’s Gate 3 is still ensorcelled in the magic of Early Access, but a full retail launch is coming up faster than intended.

Open the Gate

It has been a while, since players and fans of the Baldur’s Gate series of RPG’s were able to experience a truly new adventure within its walls. But that wait is about to come to an end, as developer Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the way in short order.

After spending a long while in Early Access on the PC, the turn-based title is finally ready for any and all adventurers. Actually, it’s going to be ready a little on the early side.

Larian announced today that the game will be releasing about a month early, though only on the PC. That edition will be out and ready for action on August 3rd instead of the 31st. Though the release news isn’t all great, as the PS5 edition will be nudged back, though only a week. Players can look forward to seeing that on September 6th.

“We’ve always been a studio that aims to release on as many platforms as possible, in order of readiness. We’ve also aimed for the highest possible quality on every platform we’ve released on. We’re at a point where we’re reaching 60 FPS on PlayStation 5, which is remarkable considering the breadth and depth Baldur’s Gate 3 aims for. It features over 170 hours of cinematics, more than twice the length of the entirety of Game of Thrones, and more than three times the dialogue of all three Lord of the Rings novels combined. It is a massive, expansive game that truly brings D&D to life, with multiplayer and split-screen co-op, and at a scale that’s roughly four times that of our previous game, Divinity: Original Sin 2,” said Director of Publishing Michael Douse.

Larian Studios press release

If you just can’t wait to get back into Baldur’s Gate, then make sure you check out the Panel From Hell: Release Showcase live show. Larian will explore the “full scope of their sprawling RPG” in that video, streaming on July 7th.
