Sonic is racing back to consoles and PC this fall with the incredible looking Sonic Superstars

He’s back and ready to run. Sonic the Hedgehog will be returning in Sonic Superstars, a game that fuses classic play with blazing fresh looks.

Blast processing

Get ready for this one, because if you’re a Sonic fan, you’re probably gonna love it. No, it’s not another 3D adventure, or another departure ‘trying something different’, Sonic Superstars is 100% classic Blue Blur. Kind of.

Whereas the gameplay and roster of characters sure looks familiar, the game itself is looking drop-dead gorgeous. This is Sonic as you’ve never seen him before, and with a co-op mode to boot.

Sonic and his friends’ journey starts on the beautiful North Star Islands, a mystical place offering never-before-seen environments, as well as a mysterious story waiting to unfold. Enormous creatures, exhilarating adventures, and evil plans from Dr. Eggman await Sonic and his friends, who can now obtain brand-new abilities known as the Emerald Powers when Chaos Emeralds are collected.

Sega press release

All told, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose will all be playable in the campaign, which again can be tackled by 1-4 players. And while Dr. Eggman and Fang will be present to stand in the team’s way, there’ll be a brand new threat as well, from Sonic designer Naoto Ohshima.

Also changing things up a bit, are the Chaos Emeralds. While they’ve been in Sonic titles since the beginning, they’ve never been able to grant abilities like “creating clones of yourself, climbing waterfalls, powering up, and more!”

It certainly seems as though Sonic Superstars is finally another Sonic title to get excited for. Stay tuned for more, as it speeds towards release on consoles and the PC this fall.
