You can’t see WWE 2K23’s second Ringside Report (’cause it’s all about Cena)

The star of the newest WWE title from 2K and Visual Concepts, veteran WWE superstar John Cena is the subject of Ringside Report number 2.

This is basic thuganomics

Do you remember when John Cena debuted in the WWE? He kind of had no gimmick, though that was pretty quickly seen to, as the fledgling wrestler became the Doctor of Thuganomics pretty fast.

And from there is was off to the races, with massively high-profile matches, huge feuds, and plenty of title reigns. Though some fans got a little tired of his “hustle, loyalty, and respect”, there’s no arguing that John Cena left a gigantic mark on the former-Federation during his 20 year career.

So with that in mind, it’s kind of obvious why Visual Concepts placed him on the center stage for WWE 2K23.

If you watched the above trailer, one big thing might’ve stuck out to you. Namely, that it featured all matches that Cena… lost. And you’d be right in that, since that’s exactly what WWE 2K23 will be tasking players to battle through, with this year’s Showcase mode.

Players will play as Cena’s opponents, in a kind of interactive documentary, reliving the superstar’s biggest losses. Visual Concepts says that the idea was to make sure the mode was fresh, and didn’t have fans playing as the same wrestler for a bunch of matches.

In all, fans can look for:

  • John Cena’s Toughest Losses: Go toe-to-toe with John Cena across each portion of his career, from a young unknown challenging Kurt Angle on SmackDown in 2002, to SummerSlam 2021 as Cena took on the Head of the Table, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and everything in between;
  • An Interactive Sports Documentary: Hear directly from Mr. Hustle, Loyalty and Respect himself through interspersed vignettes, explaining the history and importance of each match;
  • Fresh, Varied Gameplay: Play as John Cena’s greatest and toughest opponents, keeping each match fresh with new move sets and strategies;
  • See John Cena Across Eras: Face-off against different versions of John Cena through the years, from his debut to the Doctor of Thuganomics, and the leader of the “Cenation” who has faced some of the baddest Superstars to ever set foot in a WWE ring;
  • Slingshot Technology: Fast-paced gameplay flawlessly transitions to live-action historical footage for a truly immersive experience.

2K press release

If you dig the sound of all that, then you’ll want to check out the Ringside Report #2 in full. You can find it here on 2K’s official page for the game. As for the full release of WWE 2K23, that’s coming up fast, with a March 17th release on Xbox and PlayStation platforms, and the PC.
