Werewolf by Night returns to the pages of Moon Knight this October

The moon rises high once again, but this time the Werewolf by Night is on the hunt to kill a god. And the only way to do that’s through Moon Knight.

Moon-bros. Kinda

For those who don’t remember, Werewolf by Night and Moon Knight have quite the history. The two faced off in a classic Moon Knight book, and now will once again be paired in this year’s Moon Knight annual.

The first (and probably last) one for this current run of the book, Moon Knight Annual #1 brings one Jack Russell (yes, really) back from obscurity to face Marc Spector.

But as Marvel Comics points out, this meeting might go quite differently.

In the Darkhold, there is a prophecy of how a god might die. Jack Russell, more familiar with that cursed tome than most, would like very much to kill a god and save his people, the people bound in servitude to the moon. But to fulfill that prophecy requires the blood of the Fist of Khonshu, and Moon Knight doesn’t bleed easily.

Marvel Comics press release

Set to be a double-sized tale, Moon Knight Annual #1 will feature the art of Federico Sabbatini, in a story penned by Jed MacKay. MacKay the current writer for the series itself, and so if you’re digging this work there, you will probably want to check it out here too.

For that matter, Sabbatini is no stranger to Moon Knight either. The artist has worked on several issues of the monthly, and did the Devil’s Reign tie-in for the character.

“It’s been great seeing people respond to our MOON KNIGHT series, and it’s always a bit of a thrill to give folks even more- and MOON KNIGHT ANNUAL #1 was the place to revisit some old history,” MacKay explained. “Moon Knight has changed a lot since he first did battle with the Werewolf by Night, but so has Jack Russell, and having the opportunity to see how these two interact now, all these years later, has been a lot of fun. And Jack isn’t the only player in Moon Knight’s history who is turning up when Federico Sabbatini joins us for another adventure (and draws the hell out of it, I must add).”

Moon Knight Annual #1 is set to hit stands on October 26th.
