A “classic” RPG in the Warhammer 40K universe, Rogue Trader is on the way

A cRPG set in the Warhammer 40K universe seems like a pretty fantastic proposition. That’s just what Owlcat Games has in mind for Rogue Trader.

Turn-based, grim-dark

From the looks of things, Owlcat Games is prepping something unique for the WH40K license. It’s a classic RPG, with all the trimmings.

Players will take on the role of a Rogue Trader, a scion of an ancient dynasty of daring privateers, that reign over their own merchant empire and explore the fringes of Imperial space  with the blessing of the Emperor Himself. Thanks to their Warrant of Trade – the Rogue Trader is endowed with privileges and power beyond imagination as well as the task of expanding the borders of the Imperium. At their disposal is a gargantuan voidship of immense strength and innumerable personnel ready to follow any undertakings of the leader. Show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the Emperor or consort with enemies of Mankind – every decision and every act of the Rogue Trader sends ripples throughout entire star systems, changing the in-game world and those who inhabit it.

Owlcat Games press release

According to Owlcat Games, Rogue Trader will take place in the Koronus Expanse. Right on the edge of Imperium space, it’s not all that safe of a place for anyone. And since that’s the case, it’s a good thing that you’ll be able to build a pretty wicked party in this turn-based, classic role-playing game.

“A mighty Space Marine, a mercurial Aeldari Ranger, or even a courageous Sister of Battle armed with bolter and ardent prayers” can all join you on your adventures. And they’re just the start, as there’ll plenty more characters to recruit.

With Owlcat (of Pathfinder fame) developing, there’s quiet a bit here to look forward to. No release date has been announced just yet, but special Founder’s Packs are available for purchase now. Those will net fans a plethora of goodies, for when the game finally drops, and can be ordered here on Owlcat’s site.
