Diamond Select announces partnership with action icon Jean-Claude Van Damme

By far one of the biggest action stars of the 1980s, Jean-Claude Van Damme is back and ready to kick your collection up a notch thanks to DST.

Read between the lines

Though actor Jean-Claude Van Damme was featured in one of the Expendables movies, it’s probably been a while since you’ve seen him headlining anything. After all, he’s really best known as an 80s/90s star. Actually, superstar might be a better term, because Van Damme’s movies were pretty big time.

From Timecop to Hard Target and Universal Soldier, JCVD’s catalog was expansive. The action genre may have been on the crowded side back then, but Van Damme’s films were pretty much right there with the best in the biz for a while.

But even so, and even back then, you probably would be hard-pressed to find too much in terms of Van Damme ‘collectibles’. Well, if you’ve been waiting, then your time has finally arrived.

Diamond Select Toys has picked up the license rights for Van Damme, and it certainly seems as though they’ll be all-in on getting product out there with his face.

Depicting the star at various points in his career, in some of his most iconic outfits and poses, the new product line will include Deluxe action figures, Gallery PVC Dioramas, Legends in 3D half-scale busts, and resin statues. Pre-orders will begin in early 2022 for late 2022 shipping.

DST press release

To go along with the above, DST mentions the likes of “Bloodsport, Cyborg, Street Fighter and more”. Might that mean that long-awaited Bloodsport figures could be coming up? For that matter, might we be seeing a JCVD ‘Major Guile’ from Capcom’s infamous Street Fighter flick? Never know.

From the sound of it though, you won’t have to wait long to see what’s in the initial volley. DST says that we should be seeing pre-order info popping up any time now (early ’22). Even better, the items themselves will start shipping by the end of the year.
