Marvel celebrates 300 Masterworks books with variant cover slate

Marvel Comics is about to see its 300th Marvel Masterworks book hit publication, and with that will come a special selection of variant covers.

A classic

Marvel Masterworks, as a line of collected graphic novels, have been around for a while. That’s obvious given the numbering that the series is about to achieve. A lofty numbering of 300 is nothing to sneeze at after all.

The set of books basically collects classic issues of Marvel’s most notable, and has included massive creative talents as well as iconic heroes and villains. So who’s the subject of #300? Uh, well, it’s Howard the Duck.

Finding a niche fame in recent years mainly due to his brief appearance in the Guardians of the Galaxy film, Howard will see an as yet undefiled collection of his adventures. Marvel simply describes the books as containing “the offbeat adventures of one of comic’s most hilarious characters”.

But that’s actually a tale for another time, as the news this week covers the event itself. With the 300th Masterwork, also is coming a little celebratory collection of variant covers.

The cover slate will include a five-pack of pieces, spread out across some of Marvel’s most legendary books. Those include:

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #59 MASTERWORKS VARIANT by EMA LUPACCHINO
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #26 MASTERWORKS VARIANT by EMA LUPACCHINO
  • DAREDEVIL #27 MASTERWORKS VARIANT by EMA LUPACCHINO
  • FANTASTIC FOUR #29 MASTERWORKS VARIANT COVER by EMA LUPACCHINO
  • IRON FIST: HEART OF THE DRAGON #2 MASTERWORKS VARIANT COVER by EMA LUPACCHINO

All of the above will be out and in stores this February. As for book 300 of the Marvel Masterworks line, that won’t show up till the spring.
