Titan Comics to launch Blade Runner Origins series

Starting off decades before the original film, Blade Runner Origins dives into the world of the movies, complete with the original Nexus Replicants.

While it’s not a new film or a TV series, the upcoming Blade Runner comic from Titan Comics is set to expand upon the movie’s world in a major way. The book will go back to where the special Blade Runner unit originated (hence the name), for a never before told tale.

The book will have a 12 issue run, and feature a creative team that’s well-versed in the Blade Runner universe. Mike Johnson was the co-writer of Titan’s Blade Runner 2019, and will be joined by screenwriter Mellow Brown and artist K. Perkins. You might know Perkins from books like Batwoman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl, according to the publisher.

Expect to see Blade Runner Origins #1 on the stands this February the 21st. And in the meantime, here’s a little closer peek at what you’ll see unfold.

From the press release:

A senior bioengineer for the Tyrell Corp is found hanging in her sealed laboratory, the victim of an apparent suicide. LAPD Detective Cal Moreaux—a war-scarred veteran of the bloody Off-world conflict known as Kalanthia, as depicted in the “Blackout 2022” Blade Runner anime—is sent to write it up, quickly, quietly and with the minimum of fuss. But something doesn’t sit right with the detective, and it soon becomes apparent that this is anything but a “normal” suicide. Did the scientist’s ground-breaking research on Nexus-model Replicants somehow contribute to her death? And is the apparent disappearance of a prototype Nexus unit also connected to the case? Det. Moreaux’s investigation will draw him into a dark conspiracy behind Dr. Tyrell’s Replicant empire.A senior bioengineer for the Tyrell Corp is found hanging in her sealed laboratory, the victim of an apparent suicide.
