SDCC 19: Marvel brings back the frames for 80th

Remember those classic “framed” covers from the 80s? Now they’re back, in a modern form of course, for Marvel Comics 80th birthday.

Celebrate

Originally created for the publisher’s 25th anniversary, the “frame” covers were something of a fan favorite. They were for me anyway, and I have yet to hear a fan deride them in any way (though I’m sure some do).

If you dig them too, then you’ll be happy to know that they’re back! Well, they’re sort of back. They don’t have quite the same look as those classic, silver-backed cover frames, but the modern equivalent nonetheless looks kinda cool.

A set of variant editions (natch’), the Frame Variants will hit stores this August. A total of ten covers are planned, for now anyway, and will adorn variants of some of Marvel’s biggest titles.
