Dark Horse Comics made two big announcements today, as goes their Predator license. First, fans will be getting a second helping of the Hunters story with a fresh sequel. Second, a massive Essential Comics collection is on the way, binding together some of the publisher’s earliest franchise stories.
Twin hunters
This is shaping up to be a big year for Pred fans. This fall will see the first big screen movie in some time from the series hit theaters. And since it’s from the original scribe Shane Black, there’s a chance it’ll actually be a good one.
Add onto that though, a pair of new announcements from Dark Horse. If you’re an old school fan, I can almost guarantee you’re going to absolutely love one of them.
Released to fan and critical acclaim, Hunters is getting a sequel, and its first issue is set for launch this August the 8th.
For fans craving new bloody action, writer and Senior Dark Horse Editor Chris Warner (the artist from the original Predator comics from 1989) returns to team up with artist Agustin Padilla for a blood-drenched adventure in Predator: Hunters II! Since the beginning of time, Predators have come to Earth from their home among the stars to stalk and kill the strongest of humans for sport. But now the tables have turned, and a group of human hunters has set their sights on the Predators. But they soon find out they are competing with a mysterious government agency that is after the same prey. The hunt is on, and only the strongest and smartest will survive!
Then there’s The Essential Comics Volume 1
Following hot on the heels of the Aliens announcement in the same vein, this set will include a ton of content – including the first Dark Horse Predator mini-series. That, by the way, was a true sequel to the original movie.
Before the 1990’s film Predator 2, Dark Horse released a full-color comics sequel to one of the greatest action films of all time written by Mark Verheiden and illustrated by comics mainstays Chris Warner and Ron Randall. This was to become just the beginning of an ongoing line of many Predator tales. Collecting Predator: Concrete Jungle, Predator: Cold War,and Predator: Dark River, Predator: The Essential Comics Volume 1 TPB is a value package for those who value action.
Predator: The Essential Comics Volume 1 arrives just in time for the holidays (festive!), on December 12th. It also needs to be pointed out that this tome keeps the same pricing level as the Aliens Essential Comics collection, and will run 368 pages with a price tag of just $24.99 USD.
