Street Fighter live action series on the way from Assassin’s Fist creators

This one kind of sounds crazy, but it’s apparently happening. Capcom is teaming with the makers of the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist web series for a live action show.

Fight

Do you remember Assassin’s Fist? I don’t, but it was a fairly well-received live action Street Fighter web series (I think). Honestly, I can’t remember seeing any reviews, but I did hear it was decent from a few people who checked it out. Bottom line – it’s understandable if it didn’t get a ton of exposure in the mainstream.

It seems like Capcom liked it just fine though. That’s because they’ve tapped the creators of the show to produce a full on TV series based in the Street Fighter universe.

“After a long search, guided by the team behind Assassin’s Fist, we are delighted to be partnering with a company with the outstanding TV experience of Mark Gordon and eOne. They have the credentials to help us launch a faithful adaptation of Street Fighter as a major TV series,” said Yoshinori Ono, Capcom Executive Producer for Street Fighter.

The stage is (more or less) set

Street Fighter will follow the “World Warrior” arc from Street Fighter II, which is an amazing place to start. I don’t think anyone would argue that, being that it’s the most popular era from the long-running series of games. The show will seemingly follow the plot of the game too. It will reportedly focus on the global fighting tournament set up by one M. Bison.

Look for “Chun-Li, Guile, Ken and Ryu” to headline as the heroes too. It’s incredibly promising, and I’m crossing my fingers ridiculously hard for this to be good. As a massive SFII fan, I’m more than a little hopeful.

No news yet on any specifics such as a cast or platform, but we’ll have more as it’s announced.
