New Star Wars Adventures book from IDW targets the younger set

Kids love Star Wars, but a comic aimed directly at children is coming soon from IDW publishing with Star Wars Adventures.

Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi begins with Star Wars Adventures

“Lucasfilm is thrilled to expand our relationship with the talented and creative folks at IDW to bring Star Wars comics to kids,” said Michael Siglain, Creative Director of Lucasfilm Publishing. “IDW has an incredible pedigree of talent, and we look forward to working with them on the creation of these fun, action-packed adventures that span the entire Star Wars saga.”

How’s that for an endorsement? IDW is, of course, a terrific comic book publisher, with loads f great licenses already. I shouldn’t have to remind any fan of their ‘Hasbro universe’. This’ll be their first fray into the world of Star Wars as a recurring comic though, and that’s a milestone.

The launch book is scheduled to be a pretty wide-ranging too, with a comic that’ll be a part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi push. The aforementioned is actually part of a publishing program which’ll see an “exciting array of content leading-up to the next cinematic chapter in the ongoing space saga”.

It’s a big deal too, for IDW and Chris Ryall, IDW’s CEO.

“IDW has long sought to offer the next generation of comic book fans ample reading choices, and being able to provide Star Wars comics aimed directly at that audience is a massive thrill. Disney has been a great collaborator with us and we’re very excited to delve into this particular corner of the galaxy.”

As of right now, there are no details as to what the actual Star Wars Adventures comic will entail, including the story points. From the art shown here though, it looks like it’ll include the full breadth of the Star Wars universe. Expect to see all of that detailed in the near future though, and we’ll have it for you here.

In the meantime, IDW does have a series of new collections of classic Star Wars newspaper strips on the way. That one you will see in much shorter order, hitting retail this coming May.
