Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea (Comics) Preview

Hellboy’s adventures take him onto the high seas in 2017.

A hell of a different sort

The sea can be a particularly scary place when you think about it. Well, for land-dwellers anyway, and that’s pretty much what Hellboy is. I mean, sure he’s a demon and all, but I don’t see him getting on all that well on the waves. From the looks of this preview for Into the Silent Sea, that assumption seems about right.

“The biblical Jonah was vomited up by a whale, but Hellboy might not be as lucky,” said Gary Gianni. “A superstitious crew and a figure in black will make sure there’s no escaping the silent sea.”

See? Not a good time for Big Red. Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea is set for release in the Spring of 2017, and represents a sequel of sorts for an already existing tale. Following on the events that took place in ‘The Island’, Into the Silent Sea brings the hero across the path of a ghost ship.

Into the Silent Sea

Following the events of the classic story “The Island”, Hellboy sets sail from the wreckage of a deserted island only to cross paths with a ghost ship. Taken captive by the phantom crew that plans to sell him to the circus, Hellboy is dragged along by a captain who will stop at nothing in pursuit of a powerful sea creature.

Sounds typically Hellboy-ish, and that’s a very good thing indeed. Also pretty awesome, is that Into the Silent Sea is a graphic novel. So the third such original tome will be a one-off read for fans, who won’t have to wait month to month to see the rest of the story. Gary Gianni will be penciling this one too, which is a treat. Gianni might not be readily associated with Hellboy, but it looks like he’s taken to it like nobody’s business. It’s impressive looking, to say the least, and very different for a Hellboy book.

Gianni will be co-writing this one as well. Who’s his partner? Why that’d be Mike Mignola, the creator of Hellboy himself. Very nice indeed. Oh, and lest we forget, Dave Stewart will be handling colors here, so you know the book’s gonna pop. Hellboy: Into the Silent Sea should be one hell of a read.
