Classic monsters will abound in Marvel’s Monsters Unleashed, but so will some new ones.
Beware Monsters Unleashed
“Everything about this story is massive – the scope, the stakes and, of course, those incredible monsters,” says Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso. “Five action-packed issues celebrate Marvel’s past, present and future, as one new, unforgettable character and several brand-new monsters – created and designed by Cullen Bunn, the five artists and a few surprise guest artists – arrive to leave an indelible mark on the Marvel Universe.”
Oh those lovable monsters. We filled you in on the major points of Monsters Unleashed just yesterday. Today though, we had yet another bit of info leak out. Of course, I’m referring to the fact that there’ll be a six pack of brand new creatures, made just for this crossover.
A crushing cadre
So not only will you be seeing characters that haven’t been around since ages gone by, but you’ll also get:
- SLIZZIK by Steve McNiven
- SCRAAG by Greg Land
- MEKRA by Leinil Francis Yu
- AEGIS by Salvador Larroca
- HI-VO by Adam Kubert
- FIRECLAW by Art Adams
Also very cool is how these characters are being revealed, which is quite fitting. It’s all in line with the classic nature of the event itself too, and that’s doubly cool. That means that the above will be intro’d in trading card form. No, it’s true that there’s really never been Marvel ‘monster’ cards before. Thing is, both the big beasts and trading cards have played a huge part in Marvel’s history. So it’s kind of a cool little nod to the past.
“Monsters Unleashed is a love letter to Marvel’s history,” says Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel. “So we wanted to do something fun for our six new monsters. Being the massive Marvel fan that he is, Cullen had already come up with statistics, power rankings and factoids about all of them. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to create some fan-favorite Marvel Universe trading cards for the big reveal!”
You can check out the cards in the gallery below. As for Monsters Unleashed itself, look for it to start to rampage at retail this coming January.
