Red Dead Redemption 2 official, coming next Fall

Rockstar Games today confirms what they hinted at over the weekend, Red Dead Redemption 2 is on the way.

Wild, wild west

You know it, you (probably) love it, and now RDR is getting a sequel from Rockstar. Most likely a sequel anyway, though it could always be a prequel too. Either way, chances are that it won’t star John Marston, the main character from the first Redemption. And while the trailer is still a few days off, we do have some hints at what you can expect from the game as of today.

First, there’s that image. Clearly there’s a group of men framed in the shot. That might mean nothing important, true, or it could mean that there’s a whole gang under your control in Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar says that the game is “an epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland”, which doesn’t reveal a ton. So you know, feel free to speculate away for now.

Rockstar further hints at the size of the game though, saying that it will have “vast and atmospheric world”… and will also include multiplayer in that world. Now don’t get too upset. We’re not talking about an online-only title here, there’ll just be a multiplayer mode. I’m sure that the campaign is going to be as loaded with content as the first RDR.

A living world

And of course, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be another evolution in Rockstar’s obsession with creating a truly ‘alive’ world for gamers to play in. That’s expected, even without the quote.

“With Red Dead Redemption 2, the team is working hard to push forward our vision for interactive entertainment in a truly living world,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games.  “We hope to deliver players an epic experience that builds upon everything we’ve learned making games.”

Ready for the trailer? The link isn’t live as of yet, but it will be on October 20th, at 11am eastern time. So make sure you check back then.
