Original Darksiders gets Warmastered

What’s Warmastered? Well, much like the Deathinitive edition of Darksiders II, it’s a remastered version of the first Darksiders game. And it’s on the way to consoles and the PC.

Darksiders: Warmastered Edition

With developer KAIKO taking the reigns, this new version of Darksiders changes things up a bit from the previous edition. You might recognize that name too, if you’re a fan of the series, since KAIKO handled Darksiders II’s remake on the Xbox One. even though things seemingly halted at two games, the sieges is a good one, worth your time.

In this first game, you play as War, horseman of the apocalypse. War’s more or less been framed for starting the end of days a little early, and now in the wasteland of what was Earth, he’s hunted. Angels and devils both are on his heels, and it’s up to him alone to clear his name.

So, whats new?

If you’re new to the series, then this is the perfect place to start. If bot, and you’ve played this game once already, there’s a fair bit of newness to experience. The graphics have been well-remastered, including multiple improvements from 60fps to supported 4k output.

Have a look at the full list of improvements:

  • PS4, Xbox One and Wii U versions of Darksiders (Wrath of War)
  • Native 1080p rendering resolution for console platforms
  • 4k support and additional video options for PC
  • Doubled all the texture resolutions
  • Rendering improvements and rework
  • Better shadow rendering quality
  • Post processing effects
  • 60 FPS in moment to moment gameplay (PS4, Xbox One, PC, 30 for WiiU)

Not too shabby, especially if you haven’t played in a while. Really though, the biggest reason to come back is the narrative and gameplay. Sure it’s a simple tale, but it’s well done here, and in a setting that hasn’t been the stage for a game maybe ever. It’s cool, it’s unique, and it plays a lot like a gorier Legend of Zelda might.

Worth it, in my humble opinion.

You can play Darksiders Warmastered Edition this October the 25th, when it lands at retail for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. It’ll cost you a very tiny sum of just $19.99 USD.
