Behold, the CGI splendor of the first Warcraft movie trailer

No, it isn’t completely CGI, but there are a whole mess of effects happening in the first official trailer for the Warcraft movie.

From Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures comes Warcraft, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon.

The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

Well, that was pretty awesome actually.

I’ve been a huge fan of the Warcraft franchise almost since the start (excepting WoW), but I didn’t have whole hell of a lot of interest in the movie to be completely honest. I’m not sure why that was exactly, but I have to admit that was a pretty slick looking piece of effects-laden film.

I had the chance to see the costumes at the Weta booth at NYCC last month, and they’re as impressive up close as they are in the trailer. There’s no mistaking them for what they are- that being Warcraft. Even so though, and while they have an authentic vibe, there’s a definite Lord of the Rings tinge to the styling too, which I think is just fine.

And I love the massive battles glimpsed in the trailer. You couldn’t really have a film based on an RTS and not have some big monster fight though now could you?

Warcraft arrives in theaters on June 10th, 2016.
